Virtual education is changing the way we learn and the way we will move into the future. As a former virtual student, I know the opportunities and academic success online learning offers can make all the difference. Since 2002, I have been teaching English to students in Kansas and Ohio. I started my teaching career at Shawnee Heights High School in Tecumseh, KS (outside Topeka). In 2004, my husband and I made the move to Canton, OH – home of the Football Hall of Fame. I taught grades 8-12 at Hartford Middle School and Timken High School. While in Canton, I witnessed technology take on a whole new role in education. I began working with other educators to develop technology-rich lessons and implement student-lead learning online. In 2006, we moved to Huntington, WV – land of the Thundering Herd (“We Are Marshall!”). In Proctorville, OH (a small town across the river), I taught 9th & 12thgrade English, Mythology, Lyrics as Literature (history of Rock ‘n’ Roll), and Shakespeare at Fairland High School. I also began my Master of Science program in Instructional Technology. I knew technology was a driving force in education, and I wanted to make sure I was a part of it.
We welcomed our daughter, Ava, in 2007. In 2010, we made our next and final move to Wichita. I spent my first two years teaching 9th and 12th-grade honors and AP English courses at Wichita Heights. In 2012, we were blessed with our son, Alex. I also graduated from Fort Hays State University with my graduate degree and accepted a position with Andover eCademy. I am thrilled to be an Eagle!
