I am Kim Hett, and this is my 26th year teaching in Andover, the best public school system in Kansas! I am married and have two children; Gehrig and Gracie. Our dog, Buddy, joined our family in 2008.
My career began in 1994, teaching third grade at Andover Intermediate School. At that time we only had one K-5 school. As Andover began growing, due to the wonderful schools, the buildings grew as well! I spent the next eleven years teaching third grade. Five of those years, as I began having children of my own, I was fortunate enough to have a job-share situation. I taught third grade part-time. That was when my love for writing intensified. Upon speaking with my administrator about the need for a writing coach at our elementary school, I created that position, with Board approval. For the next three years, I taught first through fifth grades writing lessons and coached teachers along with providing professional development. I now serve on the state writing committee.
For the next two years, I was an Elementary Academic Coach. This position allowed me to coach teachers in various instructional strategies, and go into kindergarten through fifth-grade classrooms modeling lessons in all subject areas as well as cooperative learning all over our district.
Now, this is my tenth year with Andover eCademy! I jumped at this opportunity to reach many different students from around the state and invite them to Andover! Teachers provide a rigorous curriculum, and I’ll be there to assist students and their families, along with teachers, with lessons, activities and prepare students for Kansas expectations as well. I look forward to a wonderful year with you!
